How to Wear Statement Tees this Autumn

This is a sponsored post

Something that is on my mind quite a lot now that my baby is getting older is redoing my wardrobe for the Autumn. Thankfully the season of strappy crop tops and baring-all women’s fashion is coming to an end, so how do you take summer essentials into the winter months? Statement tees are THE easiest pieces of apparel to style down, and with a bit of practice, can look really awesome dressed up too - the trick is to simply layer them for the colder seasons. I’m not saying just stick a jumper over the top of them, because then you’re kind of defeating the object of wearing a STATEMENT. The art of layering is a simple concept that can be tricky to master in line with the current trends, so take a look at my Autumn style guide below…

How to Wear Statement Tees this Autumn

Wear your slogan tee underneath a camisole or a slip dress

This trend is something that’s resurfaced from the 1990s (my era!) and it’s become one of the biggest street style trends of 2016. Alongside the comeback of choker necklaces and distressed denim, the statement tee can now take center stage through Autumn, being layered under your dainty spaghetti straps once again. The easiest way to take on the trend is to bag yourself a plain(ish), shimmery strappy slip dress and layer it over the top of a statement tee so that you can still make out the slogan. This look is great for parties, festivals or teaming with sneakers for a casual day look. Whether you're chilling in Amsterdam or heading to New York, this look will work wherever your travels take you.

Get Grungy with Leather

Leather is always the new black - it’ll never go out of fashion because it’s a timeless material; so versatile that you literally could wear it with anything. Teaming a grungy leather jacket over the top of a slogan tee instantly exudes effortless chic - then the rest is yours to play with! If you’re extremely trend-led, then opting for the season’s popular prints on culottes or cigarette trousers is a simple way to look like you just strode out of a glossy mag! If denim is more your comfort zone, then choose a pair of ripped baggy crops or skinny jeans to keep it casual. Either way you pair it, leather is sure to give you the "hip mom" look.

Wear Loose over a Mini Skirt

This year it’s all about messy styling - nobody is that impressed with a super sleek, polished get up are they? I mean, it definitely takes more skill to leave the house looking messy yet still uber-on trend right? That’s why I love styling my slogan tees loosely over mini skirts. It's so easy to do this look while still having time to get the baby ready as well. Just pick an A-line or straight fitting printed skirt, leather mini or even suede for this season (and opaque tights for the cold!), then work the tee over the top either by tying a knot in the back, half tucking it in or tucking it and pulling it out from the top to make it appear baggy. Rolling the sleeves is also lovingly accepted.

Accessorize for a Sophisticated Take

For those of you that are a little more extravagant with your day to day outfits, or if you simply want to dress up your tee for a night out, take note of how model Gigi Hadid (middle image) styles hers. Tucked into a pair of super high waist palazzo pants, cinched with a belt and matched accordingly with wedges, a handbag and a pair of oversized sunnies, Gigi looks like she could walk onto a yacht or hit a fancy bar. An easy way to dress up your t-shirt is to wear a slimline or boyfriend blazer over the top with skinny trousers or jeans, and some heels. Jewelry and other accessories such as head-pieces, scarves, watches, chunky necklaces and floppy hats will tie the whole outfit together and exude relaxed sophistication!

Tell me in the comments below how you're planning to wear your statement tees this Autumn. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
